The United Churches was founded in 1941 when the First Church of Christ (established 1708) and the United Methodist Church of Durham (established 1851) merged to form one united congregation. We remain in covenant with both the United Church of Christ (UCC) and United Methodist Church (UMC). These traditions are reflected in our liturgy, teachings, and organization. You will find United Churches members have diverse Christian experiences. Many have been in our pews since birth, some come from other traditions, and others are new to church. We are proud of our variety and our committed community all seeking to know, worship, and serve God.
