Pastor Jeanette Hicks

,The United Churches of Durham welcomed Rev. Jeanette Cooper Hicks in the fall of 2016. She is a native of Philadelphia and was raised in a Roman Catholic home and attended 12 years of Catholic school. Rev. Hicks studied English at Vassar College and received her Masters in Reading Education from Western Connecticut State. Her first call was to teaching elementary and then college students. She never imagined she would work in a church but God had plans, which lead her to seminary. She studied at Union Theological (NYC), Louisville Presbyterian Seminary, and Boston School of Theology. This former military family (Go Navy!) has made their home in New York, Chicago, Louisville, North Carolina, and New Hampshire before coming to The United Churches of Durham. She is ordained an Elder by the United Methodist Church. Before being called to United Churches she joyfully served as Chapel Coordinator at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. She served as a pastor to St Matthews UMC in Louisville KY, Trinity UMC in Jacksonville, NC, and East Parish UMC in Salisbury, MA. She is a writer, worship designer, and certified Spiritual Director. Pastor Jeanette is known for her lively bible studies, storytelling, and contagious energy in worship. She loves a hot cup of tea, a well-written book, and a rambling walk. Jeanette and Al have been married more than 20 years and have 4 children ranging from 8-16 years old. Their home in Guilford has been dubbed "The Six Hicks B& B" since it is so often full of guests from the many places they have lived.
Pastor Jeanette holds drop-in office hours out in the Durham community September -June 1st. During March, she will be at Trackside Deli from 8:30-10amon Tuesdays (108 Main St, Rockfall, across from the post office).
