The United Churches of Durham has been worshipping together for 75 years. We have a rich history of being a landmark church in the beautiful community of Durham, Connecticut. We are literally "the heart of Durham" with a steeple seen for miles around. Our community church is one generations have called their church home. We are full of all sorts of people from all walks of life, seeking to know God's presence. United Churches is known for being a welcoming community of believers interested in engaging worship, warm hospitality, and service to our community.
The United Churches was founded in 1941 when the First Church of Christ (established 1708) and the United Methodist Church of Durham (established 1851) merged to form one united congregation. We remain in covenant with both the United Church of Christ and United Methodist Church. These traditions are reflected in our liturgy, teachings, and organization. You will find members of our congregation with diverse Christian experiences. We are proud of our variety and our committed community all seeking to know, worship, and serve God.
